Made from Langhorne Creek Verdelho with vine age ranging from 30 to 80 years old, this wine tastes of zesty lemons and limes and passionfruit with just a hint of the tropical notes Verdelho is renowned for. After tank-fermentation it was lees-stirred to build texture before settling. It was bottled in May 2013 - 3 months after it was picked.Totally slurpable on its own, it also pairs up beautifully with salty snacks, spicy salads and anything that used to live in water. Small Change White 2013 is perfect with fish and chips, some sprinkles of sand and a saucy smile from your drinking partner. While it’s made for drinking now it should be quite interesting as it ages in bottle. Verdelho’s high natural acidity provides a healthy foundation for aging and if you have any left in five years it may taste like toast with honey, in ten years maybe more like a loving spoonful of Mum’s lime marmalade.

2018 Grosset New Release Rieslings

Geoffrey Grosset

The annual tasting and release lunch with Jeffrey Grosset is always a highly anticipated event.

This year’s masterclass was a focus on Riesling clones – something that perhaps not many of us have given much thought to previously but after 38 years of working his four estate-owned vineyards Jeffrey has a fascinating story to tell.  It is a story of variety & place: Rieslings ability to express its personality through clonal selection; the impact of soft and hard rock sites, organic farming and a gentle and uncomplicated process in the winery all form a unique DNA for each wine.

A tasting of all three clones: GM198 - the most commonly planted in Australia, GM110 - a scarce tightly packed bunch of German origin and 156 Australian, provided an insight to the singular expression and then as the sum of all parts: Polish Hill Riesling. – Perfume of fragrant talc, white floral notes and lime citrus vibrancy.  The line and drive of this wine is all about that mouth-watering acidity,  steely minerality, tension and nerve.  A wine of great purity and length!
